What is WhatsApp Business API coexistence?

WhatsApp Business API coexistence allows you to connect your WhatsApp Business application directly to MINDO through Meta’s official API, using the same phone number. Thanks to this feature, you can continue using the WhatsApp Business app on your phone while unlocking new capabilities in MINDO, such as message automation, contact synchronization, lead tracking, team management, and advanced reporting. This is ideal for companies that want to adopt API-based workflows without abandoning the application they already use every day.

What you can do with coexistence in MINDO

With coexistence active, you can:
  • Connect your WhatsApp Business number to MINDO without leaving the app.
  • Send and receive messages from both platforms without losing information.
  • See in MINDO the messages sent from the app as echo messages, to maintain complete traceability.
  • Use MINDO’s advanced features, such as automated responses, CRM integration, performance metrics, team visibility, and more.
Currently, full synchronization of message history and contacts is not available. Messages prior to the connection will not be shown in MINDO.

Requirements to enable coexistence

To activate coexistence between your WhatsApp Business account and MINDO, some requirements defined by Meta and by the platform’s technical configuration must be met:

Active use of the WhatsApp Business application

Meta reviews the history and quality of messaging activity before approving coexistence.

Updated app version

You must have version 2.24.17 or later of WhatsApp Business installed.

Number added to Meta Business Manager

Your WhatsApp number must be correctly linked to your Meta Business Manager account.

Supported location

Currently, coexistence is not available in some countries such as Nigeria and South Africa.

Consistent activity

You need to open the WhatsApp Business app at least once every 14 days. If you don’t, Meta may remove the connection, affecting message delivery in MINDO.

Prerequisites

Before starting the integration, make sure you have:
  • WhatsApp Business application downloaded and with an active account (with a few days of history).
  • Active Facebook account.
  • Business Portfolio on Meta: if you’ve ever run ads on Meta, you likely already have one. You can verify or create it at business.facebook.com.
  • WhatsApp Business linked to the Business Portfolio: your WhatsApp Business number must be linked to your Business Portfolio on Meta.

What is a Business Portfolio?

The Business Portfolio is your space on Meta where you group all the resources your company uses to work with APIs, ads, and channels (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp). When MINDO asks you to “connect your Business Portfolio”, what it does is request access to those assets to operate your WhatsApp Business API through the Embedded Signup flow.

Step by step: Connect via coexistence

Go to Settings

In MINDO’s sidebar, click on Settings.

Go to Channels

In the Workspace section, select Channels and click + Connect WhatsApp Business API.

Connect with Facebook

A dialog will open informing you that a Facebook window will open to complete the registration. Click Connect with Facebook.

Sign in to Facebook

In the Meta pop-up window, sign in with your Facebook account.

Start the integration

Click Get Started to begin the connection flow.

Select Business Portfolio

Choose your company’s Business Portfolio. If you don’t have one, you can create it at business.facebook.com.

Select the coexistence option

Choose the option Connect your existing WhatsApp Business App to connect your existing application using the same number.

Enter phone number

Enter the phone number associated with your WhatsApp Business account.

Scan the QR code from your phone

A QR code will appear on your computer screen. Now go to the phone that has WhatsApp Business:
  1. Open the WhatsApp Business app and go to the chats section.
  2. Look for the Facebook Business message with the Connect button and tap on it.
  3. Tap Connect to the business platform.
  4. The QR scanner will open. Scan the code that appears on your computer screen.

Confirm name and timezone

Back on the computer, verify your WhatsApp Business account name and timezone. Click Next.

Review permissions and confirm

Review the permissions MINDO requests for your WhatsApp account and click Confirm. Wait a few moments while the account connects.

Finish the connection

When the confirmation screen appears, click Finish.
It’s very important not to forget to click Finish. If you don’t, the connection may not complete correctly.

How coexistence works within MINDO

When you activate coexistence, MINDO connects directly to the WhatsApp Business API to manage the messages your number receives and sends.
  • If you send or reply from the WhatsApp Business app, MINDO will show that message as an echo, reflecting the user’s activity.
  • If you send a message from MINDO, the customer will see it normally in their WhatsApp chat.
  • Both channels remain synchronized, so your team can work with full visibility and control.
This way, you can keep using the mobile app while MINDO automates processes, records conversations, and generates reports within your CRM.

Important considerations

  • Synchronization of history prior to the connection is not available at this time.
  • Approval depends on Meta and the status of your account.
  • If the app is not opened for 14 days, Meta may suspend the connection.
  • Coexistence is only available for verified and active accounts.
